This course is an intensive study of the earliest history of the British Isles, beginning with the Celtic invasions and their subsequent influence on the development of Britain. The Roman invasions which gave way to conquest by the Anglo-Saxon peoples will be examined, as well as the process of political unification up to 1066. The Norman and Angevin (Plantagenet) periods will be emphasized, and particular attention will be paid to significant developments in the high Medival era. The upheavals of the 14th & 15th centuries will be addressed as they culminate in the civil Wars of the Roses, thus laying the foundation for the early modern period.
