Housing Accommodations

Accessible housing is available to students who provide documentation of the need for such housing. Students can request other housing accommodations on the basis of a documented disability.  After written request for housing accommodations and disability documentation is submitted to the DSS office, the Disability Specialist will review the request and documentation and make a recommendation to Residence Life.  Requests for housing accommodations and the subsequent recommendations are made on a case-by-case basis.  Remember that simply having a particular diagnosis or disability does not automatically guarantee the student will obtain a housing accommodation.  The DSS office prioritizes housing requests as a limited number of single dorm spaces are available.

All requests for housing accommodations must be resubmitted each year, and documentation for housing accommodations must be reviewed and perhaps resubmitted each year a housing request is made as housing accommodations are not guaranteed for all four years.

Housing accommodations may include air conditioning in a residence hall room, a wheelchair accessible room, a visual fire alarm, assignment to a single room, or a waiver of the on-campus housing requirement. Documentation for each requests housing accommodation must demonstrate a clear need and a clear rationale for each accommodation.  A note on a doctor's prescription pad is not sufficient or acceptable documentation.

The student is required to complete the following steps:

  1. Submit written documentation that meets the appropriate criteria to Disability Services.  Information may be faxed to (440) 826-3832.
  2. Once the documentation is submitted, schedule an appointment to meet with Disability Services personnel. Please call (440) 826-5936 for more information.
