Requests for Accommodations

College students have the right to choose to disclose or not to disclose their disability. If students choose not to disclose, then they will not receive accommodations. The College is not required to provide accommodations to students who do not self-disclose their disability.

However, if a student chooses to disclose that s/he is an individual with a disability and in need of accommodations, then it is the student’s responsibility to request accommodations (and modifications or adjustments in services) from the Disability Services for Students office. Faculty and staff are not obligated to accommodate any student whose request is not made in a timely manner and is not conveyed in a letter from Disability Services or the Learning Center. For more information on letters, click here.

Once a qualified individual with a disability has requested services in a timely manner, the DSS personnel, after carefully reviewing the diagnostic evaluation, will meet with the student to determine appropriate accommodations based on the disability documentation provided by the student making the accommodation request. The student is responsible for scheduling appointments with the DSS personnel to discuss and determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations. Early consultation increases the likelihood that all the necessary services and accommodations can be in place by the beginning of each term.  Please contact (440) 826-5936 or atoure@bw.edu for further information.

The student is required to complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the intake form
  2. Submit the intake form and documentation of his/her disability to the DSS office that supports the requested accommodations listed on the intake form.  Information may be faxed to (440) 826-3832.
  3. Once the documentation is submitted, schedule an appointment to meet with DSS personnel. Please call (440) 826-5936 for more information.
