Two ways to fund your research:
|
URCS Presentation Awards Program
This program seeks to foster student scholarship by providing travel funding to individual students who are presenting/performing their original creative or research work at a professional meeting/show. This would include work done in collaboration with a faculty mentor.
Amount: Eighty percent of expenses up to $500 per student, per trip may be requested. This amount may be applied to all travel expenses (transportation, lodging, meals, etc.) as well as towards any conference registration fees or other related costs. Students will need to maintain records of expenses (receipts) to be reimbursed. Cash advances can be arranged if needed and a final travel expense report is required.
Selection: The following forms must be submitted for consideration:
- Application Form
- Faculty Nomination
- Project Abstract
- Indication of Presentation Acceptance/approval from the conference you are attending
These forms will be reviewed by Dr. Janet Stocks, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Studies. The application can be submitted at any time as the Presentation Grants program has a rolling deadline. Please allow three weeks for approval and reimbursement.
Criteria: Priority will be given to students who have had their work accepted to an international or national level organization over regional (State) or local level meetings/shows. The selectivity of the meeting/show will be considered. For group projects (e.g. a paper with several co-authors) the presenting contributor will be given priority. A student's GPA, class standing, and graduation plans may be given consideration. However, in all cases, the scholarly contribution of the student's work is the primary selection criterion. Consequently, we would expect that long-term scholarly projects done in collaboration with a faculty mentor would receive funding priority over short-term independent projects (e.g. a class project/paper). Students must be in good academic standing and enrolled at B-W at the time of their application.
Sponsors: Funding for the Student Scholars Program comes from the Student Senate matched by contributions from the Departments of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
