The celebration already has begun. WBWC, which beganoperations on March 2, 1958, is running history moments throughout the year,including interviews with former staff members, archival minutes and 1958 musiccountdowns.
During Alumni Weekend, May 16–18, they will host anumber of events for former staff members. Among these are a tour of the facilities inStrosacker Hall (the college union) and a get-together for former staff. Anopen house will include historic items from the station, and a formal dinnerand dance at the Crowne Plaza Hotel near the campus will top off thecelebration.
WBWC has come a long way from its beginning, tucked away behind the bleachers in Ursprung Gymnasium. Moving from its original10-watts to the current 4000 watts in 2001, greatly expanded the listening areaof the station. Today, internet capabilities have opened the station to the world via www.WBWC.com.
