BW to Offer Day of Play to Area Families
In an effort to get children and their families off the couch and active, the Baldwin Wallace University Department of Health & Physical Education is presenting its annual “Day of Play” for students in grades 1–8 on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 12–3 pm, in the Lou Higgins Recreation Center, 136 E. Bagley Road, Berea. The event is free and open to the public.
“We are trying to promote living a healthier lifestyle among children and their parents,” said BW student Joshua Dolnosich ‘14, who also serves as vice president of internal and external affairs of the Physical Education Club.
Activities planned include “inflatable slides, putt-putt greens, a rock climbing wall provided by the National Guard, as well as sports and physical activities developed from students in the HPE department. New this year, Dolnosich noted, is the addition of a Family Wellness Health Fair where “health-related companies will set-up booths with information for the parents while their kids play.”
Although this event is scheduled later than the Nickelodeon-sponsored National Day of Play event held on September 21 in New York City, BW’s Day of Play is still part of the national campaign to promote physical and health education by encouraging kids to play outside and to develop nutritious eating habits.
