Community Day Offers Something for Everyone

Baldwin-Wallace College will host the 31st annual Community and Family Day, featuring Yellow Jackets football, activities galore, entertainment, a cookout, and more, on Saturday, September 17 beginning at 4 p.m.

"We hope people will take advantage of the myriad activities we have planned and the opportunity to get to know one another," said Terry Kurtz, B-W's director of alumni relations. "Food and football are only the beginning when it comes to what Community Day has to offer."

The jam-packed event schedule looks like this:

4 pm - Community Day festivities begin at the North Campus Quadrangle, one block west of Finnie Stadium behind Ritter Library (rain location: Lou Higgins Center, 136 E. Bagley Road).

  • Burrell Observatory will be open for viewing sunspots and Venus, weather permitting

  • Musical instrument "petting zoo" presented by the Conservatory Outreach Department

  • "Touch the Trucks Zone" courtesy of the City of Berea Police and Fire Departments and the B-W Department of Buildings and Grounds

  • B-W Bookstore "Tent" Sale

  • Clowns, lawn games, face painting, activity booths and music

4:30 - 6 pm - Cookout (rain location is Lou Higgins Center)

  • Hamburgers, hot dogs, sloppy joes, macaroni salad, baked beans, brownies, cookies, iced tea, lemonade, soda, and coffee.

  • Picnic entertainment provided by the B-W Cheerleaders, music students, and the Marching Yellow Jackets.

6:30 pm - Football kick-off

  • The B-W Yellow Jackets face-off against the OAC-rival Heidelberg University Student Princes on Tressel Field at the George Finnie Stadium.

9 pm - View the night sky at the Burrell Observatory, weather permitting.

Ticket prices are: $10 for adults; $6 for children under age 8; and $5 for B-W students and include cookout, entertainment and football game admission. The deadline for reservations is Monday, September 12.
