CARRIE: The Musical

The regional premiere of a cult classic, CARRIE: The Musicial, is the latest BW Music Theatre collaboration with Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood.

BW's acclaimed Music Theatre program again joins forces with Beck Center to present this notorious musical February 7 through March 9 on the Mackey Main Stage. Tickets are on sale now for shows on 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays. CARRIE: The Musicial is directed by Victoria Bussert, director of BW's nationally recognized Music Theatre program.

“I am very excited that the third annual Beck Center collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre program will bring Northeast Ohio the local premiere of CARRIE: The Musical, based on the infamous first novel by Stephen King,” said Bussert.  “This piece pulses with an amazing score ranging from high energy rock to epic melodies of nearly operatic proportion. With a cast combining professional actors and BW students, it promises to be a night you'll never forget!”

A Plain Dealer Friday Magazine cover story, previewing the show, says the production may have "found its sweet spot" by blending the horror with the heart of the story.

Gripping Tale Based on Stephen King Novel

Adapted from King's bestselling novel, this gripping tale about high school misfit Carrie White is set in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine. At school she’s an outcast who is bullied by the popular crowd. At home, she’s at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie discovers that she has a special power, and if pushed too far, is not afraid to use it.

CARRIE: The Musical features BW alumni Katherine DeBoer as Carrie's overprotective mother Margaret White and Jodi Dominick as Mrs. Gardner, a strict yet caring physical education teacher, along with an ensemble of 20 talented actors from BW. DeBoer and Dominick appear courtesy of the Actor’s Equity Association. With musical direction by Nancy Maier and choreography by Gregory Daniels, CARRIE: The Musical features music by Michael Gore, lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and book by Lawrence D. Cohen.
