Baldwin Wallace Conducting $82 million Fund Effort

Baldwin Wallace University is in the public phase of the most ambitious private philanthropic undertaking in the school’s history. Commitments received include more than $20.6 million from members of the BW Board of Trustees.

Campaign Earns Early Strong Support

According to Willard E. Carmel ’51, campaign co-chair, gifts of $65,999,989 have been secured to launch Transforming Lives: The Campaign for Baldwin Wallace University, a comprehensive effort to raise a minimum of $82 million for vital capital, endowment and operating programs.

“We have been truly inspired by the breadth of support that this campaign already has generated,” said William B. Summers, Jr., ’72, campaign co-chair.  “Included in the total to date is an estate gift provided by the late Lorheta ‘Lou’ Higgins, a friend of the College from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. That gift was designated for expansion of the recreation center and permitted BW to move ahead with one of its important capital projects, which now bears her name.”

Twenty commitments in excess of $1 million already have been provided by generous BW trustees, alumni, foundations and other friends.

“We are off to a superb start,” said Carmel. “Our goals are ambitious, but realistic, and, with the continuing support of our alumni and friends throughout the BW community, they are achievable.”

Funds to Support Renovation/Construction, Student Financial Assistance and Academic Initiatives
Transforming Lives: The Campaign for Baldwin Wallace University will provide more than $49 million for campus renovation and construction, $18 million in endowment for student financial assistance, $6 million to endow professorships and create new initiatives and enhance the academic program, and $9 million in unrestricted giving for current operations and new opportunities.

“Since 1845, Baldwin Wallace University has been committed to providing exceptional, student-centered opportunities for learning,” said BW President Richard Durst. “Transforming Lives: The Campaign for Baldwin Wallace University provides us with the rare opportunity to enrich our educational programs and thrust them forward, to look at new areas to explore, and to make them accessible to a wide range of students. This campaign will assure the vitality of our College
in the future.”
