College Affordability and Access During Economically Challenging Times

We are all painfully aware of the challenges and uncertainty that are an outgrowth of our economy, both here, and from around the world. We understand that the members of the Baldwin-Wallace community are not immune to these effects that surround us each day.

We know the stress that these unsettling times can place on a family's finances and we are prepared to do what we can do to help. We have a dedicated financial aid staff with many years of proven service in helping families, like yours. The College and its members of the Board of Trustees are highly supportive of our families and have provided invaluable financial resources to assist families during these most difficult times.

If you have questions about the availability of financial aid and education financing, we welcome you to contact the Financial Aid Office. In addition to donor-sponsored scholarship assistance, there are special conditions grants for families with changing economic circumstances, as well as federal parent PLUS Loans and private education loans. For families where access to a federal PLUS Loan has been formally denied, the student can have access to receiving extra direct loan assistance as a partial substitute for the parent PLUS Loan. And, no credit reference check or review of assets is needed of the student to secure this extra student loan assistance. We encourage families to visit the Financial Aid web pages to review all of the financing information located there to assist families with their needs. In addition, you may contact the Financial Aid Office directly (440-826-2108 and www.bw.edu/finaid ).

If your student has been offered college work-study eligibility as part of the Aid Award, we encourage your student to visit the Student's Employment Office - located on the second floor of Bonds Hall. Here, the student can find information on work-study positions that are available on campus throughout the school year. During B-W's Weekend of Welcome, held just before the start of classes in late August, new, entering students are invited to come to the College Work-Study Fair where students can talk directly with college supervisors about available position openings.

After reviewing all of the financing options available, if you find that you are having difficulties in meeting college costs, please schedule an appointment with a counselor of the Financial Aid Office. Wherever possible, we want to assist families as much as we can.

This is indeed, a most challenging time. On behalf of Baldwin-Wallace College, we pledge that we will continue to work tirelessly every day to provide the truly distinctive educational experience that you've come to expect from B-W; academic programs built on the relationships with faculty that are tailored to your child's educational and career goals. Our highest priority will be to ensure exceptional opportunities for creative study, experiential learning, leadership development, and personal growth as your child prepares for a rewarding career and place in society.
