Dr. Elaine Pagels

to Baldwin Wallace University. A renowned religious scholar, Dr. Pagels’ book, The Gnostic Gospels,
 was named one of the
best 100 books of the 20th century by Modern Library.
Her research on the development of major religions challenges believers as well as those
who reject the value of structured religion.  Her work brings new understanding
to the evolution of our beliefs, traditions, and values, and to the
origin of western culture's view of the world as a battleground
between good and evil.

Dr. Elaine Pagels’ study of the origins of our religious traditions illustrates how the world’s major religions developed their tenets—their concept of evil, belief structure and definition
of gender roles - and how these beliefs shape our society today. Her work challenges traditional believers and those who reject the value of structured religion. Dr. Pagels is the Harrington Spear Paine Professor of Religion at Princeton University and the author of a number of books,
The Origin of Satan and Beyond Belief: The Gospel of Thomas.
