The New Horizons Music Program

The New Horizons music program was started at the Eastman School of Music in 1991 and now has more than 100 programs in the United States and Canada. BW's New Horizons program offers adults the opportunity to learn to play an instrument (strings, woodwind, brass or percussion). This is perfect for adults who have never had the opportunity to play an instrument or for those who played during their school days but have not had the opportunity since. We offer bands (beginning, intermediate and advanced levels), jazz band, string orchestras (beginning, intermediate and advanced levels) and chamber music ensembles. We ask that members bring their own instrument. If you need any help renting an instrument please call us at (440) 826-2365 and we can point you in the right direction. BW's New Horizons Band is a partnership of the Conservatory Outreach Department, Institute for Learning in Retirement and Music Education Department.

No experience is necessary (we will even teach you how to read music) and our program includes adults of all ages! Sign up for the fall sessions by calling (440) 826-2365 and ask about our New Member Meeting taking place on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm.

Advanced Full Orchestra

Julie Maskow, Director
This level is open to all intermediate and advanced string players, other adult string players who are studying through the BW Outreach Department and invited New Horizons Advanced wind/brass/percussion players. (Numbers of WW/B/P are significantly limited due to the nature of symphonic orchestra music. Scores are usually written for one player per part. Preference will be given to past members of the ensemble.) If you are interested in studying and performing a wide variety of musical styles from the great classical masters to Broadway hits and pop tunes, in a full orchestra setting, then join us on Tuesday evenings for string repertoire sectionals followed by a full rehearsal (with winds) in the Symphony Orchestra. This is a more intense musical experience that assumes the student has reached a reasonable degree of independence on their instrument. Repertoire sectionals focus on music to be performed rather than etudes or study books.
