Corey Clay: Leading the Way to Success

“I would have wasted a lot of money if I didn’t take advantage of every leadership opportunity presented to me by this College,” said Corey Clay (’07) about his B-W experience.

Clay, who is a first-year law student at the University of Virginia, double majored in mathematics and computer science at B-W. Throughout the years, he received several B-W recognitions, including being chosen as one of two students for the College's presidential search committee, being named a 2007 Outstanding Senior and graduating summa cum laude.

The 2003 valedictorian at Lorain Admiral King High School, Clay came to B-W on a Presidential Scholarship.  While here, he successfully combined academic achievement with extracurricular involvement and campus leadership.  He was a member of the College’s computer programming team that placed first in 16th annual regional programming contest sponsored by Denison University in 2005.

In addition, he held two campus jobs and was a member of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity, the B-W chapter of the Association of Computer Machinery and Mid-Night Madness (an organization promoting free and fun events for students).  He also was an orientation leader and served as the President of the Student Body.

Through his leadership and work, Clay has helped Student Government to promote and expand its Collegiate Readership Program, an initiative that brings hundreds of copies of USA Today and The New York Times newspapers to campus every day for students to read free of charge.

“I want to be able to say that I made a difference here at B-W,” noted Clay about his campus involvement.  “I see my role as being the voice of the students.  The greatest thing at B-W is the friendships I have made with professors, administrators and peers. What I love about B-W is the people.”
