Baldwin-Wallace Women's Tennis Team Falls to Division II Mercyhurst (Pa.), 8-1, In Season Opener

BEREA, OHIO -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin-Wallace College women’s tennis team opened its 2011-12 season by losing today (Sunday, September 11, 2011) to a very tough NCAA Division II Mercyhurst (Pa.) College team inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center. The Lakers defeated the Yellow Jackets, 8-1. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
The Yellow Jackets, who have won three of the past four OAC titles and advanced to three of the past four NCAA Division III National Tournaments, received their lone victory from senior number two singles standout Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) with a 6-0 and 6-0 shutout of Mercyhurst’s Taylor Wedlake.
The B-W women are back in action this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16-18 when they travel to nearby Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio to participate at the Oberlin Invitational Tournament.
