The Yellow Jacket Women's Tennis Team Beats Wilmington, 8-1 For its Second
Straight Win; Plays at JCU on Sunday
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team won its second straight match as it defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 8-1, at Wilmington today (Saturday, April 3).
With the win, BW improves to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. In addition, the victory was also the 194th of Yellow Jacket Head Coach Jack Bethlenfalvy's career. Bethlenfalvy, in his 20th season as coach, continues to be the winningest women's tennis coach in school history.
In singles play, freshman No.1 player Andrea Issac (New Philadelphia), sophomore No.2 player Ashley Sanders (St.Thomas/ Aquinas), sophomore No.3 player Elizabeth Moore (Huron), junior No.5 player Kristy Dillon (Brunswick) and freshman No6 player Mary Katherine Stahura (North Canton Hoover) all won. The victory for Isaac was her 10th straight and she improves to 12-1 overall. Sanders is second with nine victories and is 9-4 overall. In addition, regular No.2 singles player Sarah Juzwik (Ashland Senior) did not make the trip to Wilmington.
In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Stahura and Juzwik, the No.2 tandem of Sanders and Moore and the No.3 duo of Dillon and Stahura all won. After 13 matches, the regular No.1 duo of Juzwik and Isaac top the team at 8-3 overall.
The Yellow Jacket women will now play three matches in the next three days as they travel to University Heights tomorrow (Sunday, April 4) to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at 1:00 p.m. Then BW will host Cleveland cross-town and nonleague rival Case Western Reserve University on Monday at 3:30 p.m. either on the "Pop" Collins Courts or in the BW Recreation Center, and then host OAC rival Ohio Northern University on Tuesday in Berea. BW also hosts The College of Wooster next Thursday, April 8, in Berea at 3:30 p.m.
