Three Baldwin-Wallace College Student-Athletes Named to the

ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV At-Large Teams

BEREA, OHIO -- Three Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes, senior record-setting swimmer Alex de la Pena (Sheffield Village/ Elyria Catholic), senior all-time women’s tennis wins leader Andrea Isaac (New Philadelphia) and junior women’s tennis standout and record-setter Tiffany Allison (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston), have been named to the 2007 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV At-Large teams.

de la Pena was a first-team choice by the Sports Information Directors representing District IV from the states of Ohio, Michigan, Kentucly, Tennessee and Alabama, and Isaac and Allison were named to the second-team. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 grade point average or better and be a key starter or reserve and be of sophomore status to qualify. By virtue of making first-team All-District, de la Pena now qualifies for the 2007 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-America At-Large ballot.

de la Pena was a four-year standout on the swim team who set three school individual records and swam on three relay teams that also set school marks. He was a 16-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference competitor who won one OAC individual title and swam on two winning relay teams. He earned Academic All-OAC and ESPN Academic All-District accolades for three straight years.

In the classroom, de la Pena maintained a better than 3.7 grade average, was a member of numerous academic honor societies and was a student assistant for four years in the sports information office. The business administration and sport management major will attend graduate school this fall at Cleveland State University and serve as a graduate assistant coach.

Isaac ended her career as the most prolific women's tennis player in school history. She was the first-ever three-time Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was both B-W's 2007 Outstanding Senior Female Athlete and the school's 2007 Clyde Lamb Award winner, symbolic of the school's most outstanding student-athlete.  Individually, Isaac was a four-time All-OAC, three-time Academic All-OAC and two-time ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV student-athlete. For her career, Isaac set school records for singles wins in a career (88), doubles wins in a career (87) and career combination victories (175). She played number one singles all four years and was 88-19 in singles, 87-23 in doubles and 175-42 overall.  As a senior this spring, Isaac led B-W to a school-record 25 wins, a 25-3 record, both the OAC regular season (9-0) and OAC Tournament titles, the school's first-ever berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament and first-ever NCAA tourney win (5-4 versus Albion College of Michigan). During her four-year career, Isaac led B-W to a 65-30 overall record and the team was ranked 13th in the final 2007 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Region poll.

In the classroom, Isaac carried a 3.4 grade point average and was a member of the Dean's List and Alpha Lambda (Vice President) and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies. She was the secretary of the sophmore class, was the Student Director of Health Promotions and Grant Board and served as a Summer Orientation and Weekend-of-welcome leader. Isaac was a member of the Public Relations Club and also a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.  The special education major hopes to teach students with learning disabilities and may possibly coach tennis.

Allison is a three-time first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference tennis player and a two-time Academic All-OAC student-athlete. She currently stands third on the all-time victory list for singles (58) with a 58-16 record, third in doubles wins (61) and a 61-22 record and third in combination wins (119) with a 119-38 record.  Her .784 singles winning percentage ranks sixth all-time as does her .735 doubles winning percentage.

In the classroom, Allison maintains a 3.533 grade average in criminal justice and pre-law, is a member of the Dean's List and Alpha Lambda Academic Honor Society. She also was named as a Jacket Scholar and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She also is a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and an officer.
