Baldwin-Wallace College Women Win Opener Against Tri-State, 3-0

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team won its 2006 season-opener today (September 2) with a 3-0 victory against host Tri-State University in the first day of the Tri-State Tournament in Angola, Indiana.  Tomorrow, the Yellow Jackets face SUNY/ Buffalo in their second game at 12:00 p.m.

With its win, the Yellow Jackets are 1-0 and looking to improve upon last year's 13-5-3 overall showing.  Against Tri-State, B-W was dominant as it outshot the host school, 40-2, and outcornered them, 7-1.

B-W scored its first goal at the 12:49 mark when junior midfielder Brittan Davis (Poland/ Seminary) scored off a corner kick with the assist going to senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Ashley Belardo (North Royalton). The Yellow Jackets then increased their advantage to 2-0 at the 35:59 mark when senior three-time All-OAC forward Jenny Miller (North Ridgeville) scored her 29th career goal with an assist from junior midfielder Jamie Saathoff (Wadsworth)Miller also now has 70 career points to stand fifth all-time in school history.  The score remained 2-0 at halftime.

 In the second half, B-W increased its lead to 3-0 at the 86:31 mark when Saathoff scored with freshman midfielder Tyler Fridley (Niles (McKinley) earning her first career assist.

In goal, the duo of junior 2005 OAC Goalie of the Year Michelle Neff (Strongsville) and sophomore McKenzie Stewart (Pickerington/ Central) combining for a shutout.  Neff, who had nine shutouts a year ago, played the first 70 minutes and Stewart was in net for the final 20 minutes of the contest.

Following its game tomorrow against SUNY/ Buffalo, the Yellow Jacket women are idle until mext weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9 when they travel to Anderson, Indiana to play Anderson University on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and then travel to Adrian, Michigan to play Adrian College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
