College, 3-2 in Overtime in New Concord in its OAC Opener
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team defeated host Muskingum College, 3-2 in double overtime, today (Oct. 2) in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener in New Concord, Ohio. A goal by freshman Whitney Zunic (Canfield) with 12 seconds left in the second overtime was the game-winner. The goal also gave Zunic a hat-trick.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 9-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at the 15:38 mark of the first half when Zunic tallied her sixth goal of the season with an assists from junior Kellie Corbett (Silver Lake/ Cuyahoga Falls) and sophomore Ashley Belardo (North Royalton). It gave B-W a 1-0 lead. B-W increased its advantage to 2-0 at the 43:37 mark of the first half when Zunic scored for the seventh time in 2004 with an assist from sophomore Courtney Gillespie (Brunswick). Then, late in the second stanza, Muskingum scored twice to tie the game at 2-2 and send it into overtime. That is when Zunic nailed the unassisted game-winner.
In goal, freshman Michelle Neff (Strongsville) played all 110 minutes and made four saves. It was the first game this year that Neff has allowed more than one goal.
B-W will be back in action on Tuesday, October 5 when it travels to Tiffin, Ohio to play Heidelberg College at 4:00 p.m.
