Fox’s First Goal of Season is Match-Winner as B-W Beat Grove City (Pa.), 2-1, in Double Overtime

GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA– Senior forward Noelle Fox (Canfield) scored her first goal of the season and it was the match-winner as the Baldwin-Wallace College women’s soccer team beat host Grove City (Pa.) College, 2-1 in double overtime, today (Saturday, September 17, 2011) in Grove City, Pennsylvania. The win was B-W’s second straight.

With its win, B-W is now 4-2 overall and next play on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in a non-league match on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.  With its loss, GCC is 2-4 overall.

The Wolverines opened the scoring at the 31:43 mark when Grace Rieman scored via a pass and assist from Sarah Flenniken.  Grove City went into the lockerroom with a 1-0 advantage.

The Yellow Jackets tied the contest at 1-1 at the 48:39 mark of the second half when sophomore forward Heather Keller (Parma/ Senior) tallied her third goal of the season unassisted.  The game remained that way heading to overtime.

In the second extra session, senior forward Fox scored the game-winner on her first goal of the season at the 1:02.13 mark following a corner kick by Rachel Gokey (Seville/ Lodi Cloverleaf).
 
In goal, freshman Claire LoPresti (Bethel Park, Pa./ Bethel Park) faced 16 Grove City shots, allowed one goal and made five saves as she won her first collegiate contest.  The Yellow Jackets won the battle of shots, 16-15, but GCC won the battle of corner kicks, 5-4.

Following Tuesday’s game versus CWRU, B-W will travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania on Saturday,  September 24 when it plays Westminster College in the nightcap of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. The men’s match kicks off at 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men’s and women’s soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
