Baldwin-Wallace Falls To John Carroll, 2-1, in OAC Women’s Soccer Quarterfinals

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO -- The fifth-seeded Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team fell to fourth-seeded John Carroll University, 2-1, tonight (Tuesday, November 1, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match on Wasmer Field in the Don Shula Stadium. 

With its win, JCU improves to 13-7 overall advances to play No.1-seed Ohio Northern University on Thursday, Nov. 4 in Ada at 2:00 p.m. The winner of that match adavnces to this Saturday’s OAC Championship match.  With its loss, B-W ends its regular season at 11-9 overall.

JCU  scored the only goal of the first half just 30 seconds into the match when senior forward Rachel Grdina scored her fourth goal of the season via a pass from senior forward Colleen Harmon.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets equalized the score (1-1)at the 53:20 mark when sophomore defender Kari Trivisanno (Mentor) scored her first career goal via an assist from sophomore midfielder Hanna Cavalier (Chippewa Lake/ Cloverleaf).

In the final five minutes, John Carroll put the game away when freshman forward Kaylin Akerly scored off an assist from freshman defender Gabby Corwin.

In net for B-W, freshman Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/ St. Thomas Aquinas) played all 90 minutes, faced seven Blue Streak shots, allowed two goals and made five saves as she finished the season with a record of  7-8. For the Blue Steaks, freshman goalie Haley McDonald faced six Yellow Jacket shots, allowed one goal and made five saves as she improves to 6-2 this season.

John Carroll won the battle of shots, 18-15 but B-W won the corner kick battle, 4-2.

The winner of the 2011 OAC Tournament receives the OAC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
