Baldwin-Wallace College Women’s Soccer Team Defeats Hiram, 1-0, In Home Opener

BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore Heather Keller (Parma) scored and the Baldwin-Wallace College women’s soccer team played strong defense as it shut out Hiram College, 1-0, tonight (Tuesday, September 13, 2011) in a non-conference match on the Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.  The contest was the home opener for the Yellow Jackets.


Heather Keller notched her second goal
of the season for the game winner.

With the victory, B-W snapped a two-game losing skid and improved to 3-2 this season. The loss drops the Terriers to 2-2 overall.

The Yellow Jackets got the lone goal of the game when Keller (Parma) found the back of the net off a cross from junior midfielder Lindsey Mikula (Rocky River) at 14:18 in the first half.

In net for B-W, sophomore Kristina Mathur (Mason) recorded her first win of the season and her third in her career without facing a shot on goal.
 
B-W outshot the Terriers, 14-3, but lost the corner kick battle, 2-1.
 
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Grove City, Pennsylvania to take on the Wolverines of Grove City College in the second game of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.  B-W will return to the friendly confines of the Tressel Field pitch at the George Finnie Stadium on Tuesday, September 20 when it plays host to Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at 7:00 p.m.
