Yellow Jacket Women Tie Grove City (Pa.) College, 1-1
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer team tied Grove City College of Pennsylvania, 1-1 in double overtime, tonight (Tuesday, September 23, 2008) on Tressel Field pitch at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. The Yellow Jackets are now 2-0-1 in their last three matches.
With its tie, BW is now 3-2-2 overall and next plays on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. against Westminster College of Pennsylvania in the first game of a women’s and men’s doubleheader in Berea. The Yellow Jacket men play Westminster at 7:00 p.m. With its tie, Grove City is now 3-3-2 overall.
BW won the battle of shots, 17-14, and corner kicks, 6-4, but could not put the Wolverines away when they had the chance.
BW gained a 1-0 lead at the 74:02 mark of the second half when freshman Brittany Thomas (Westerville/ Central) scored her first collegiate goal off of a corner kick that deflected off of a defender and then off of the hands of the goalie. Grove City then countered with just 27 seconds left in regulation on a penalty kick. The game remained tied through the two 10-minute overtime sessions.
In goal, Yellow Jacket sophomore keeper Becky Miner (Berea) faced 14 shots and recorded seven saves. Grove City goalie, senior Diana Pragel faced 17 BW shots and made six saves.
