Baldwin Wallace Women’s Soccer Team Defeats Marietta, 3-0, in Berea on Seniors’ Night
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 3-0, tonight (Saturday October 25, 2008) on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium on Seniors’ Night in Berea. The women’s game was the opener of a women’s and men’s Seniors’ Night doubleheader.
With its win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-6-3 overall and 4-3 in the OAC. With its loss, Marietta falls to 4-9-3 overall and 2-2-3 in the OAC.
After a physical, but scoreless first half, sophomore All-OAC midfielder Linsey Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/South) opened the scoring at the at the 67:04 mark when she scored her second goal of the season unassisted. Clapacs’ struck a low shot from about 25 yards out, which beat Marietta goalie Helen Hetzel far post. Then with only 3:31 remaining freshman forward Noelle Fox (Canfield) added the insurance goal off a pass from her sister junior forward Natalie Fox (Canfield). Noelle Fox and sophomore midfielder Liz Rice (Wooster/Triway) then connected with only 1:20 left, with Rice supplying the assist for Fox’s second goal of the game.
In goal for BW, sophomore Becky Miner (Berea) faced four shots Pioneer shots, allowed zero goals and made four saves.
BW won the battle of shots, 20-6, and corner kicks were even at 9.
BW returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 when it travels to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field in Don Shula Stadium at 4:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets end the regular season on Saturday, November 1 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play Wilmington College at 7:00 p.m.
