Baldwin Wallace Women’s Soccer Team Loses to John Carroll, 2-0, in University Heights
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer team fell to Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 2-0, tonight (Wednesday, October 29, 2008) on Wasmer Field at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights.
With its loss, the Yellow Jackets dropped to 7-7-3 overall and 4-4 in the OAC with one game remaining during the OAC regular season. With its win, JCU improved to 10-4-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the OAC.
John Carroll opened the scoring at the 1:59 mark when Caitlin Walton connected on a pass from Aleks Quenneville. Neither team was able to score again until the 62:01 mark when John Carroll’s Colleen Harmon gave the Blue Streak a 2-0 lead off an assist from Rachel Grdina. The Yellow Jackets fought hard throughout the remainder of the contest but were unable to cut into JCU’s lead.
In goal for BW, sophomore Becky Miner (Berea) faced 21 Blue Streak shots, allowed two goals and made eight saves.
John Carroll won the battle of shots, 21-7, and corner kicks, 8-6.
BW returns to action on Saturday, November 1 when it travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play Wilmington College at 7:00 p.m. The 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 4. The brackets, sites and times of games can be found on the OAC Web site (www.oac.org).
