Baldwin Wallace Women's Soccer Team Opens Season With 1-1 Tie (2 OT) Versus Host PSU-Behrend

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer team tied its season-opening match today (Saturday, August 30, 2008) versus host Penn State Behrend in the first round the PSB Herb Lauffer Invitational Tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The score was tied 1-1 in regulation play and two 10-minute overtime sessions before PSB converted its first three penalty kicks in the shootout to advance to tomorrow’s championship match. BW plays SUNY-Geneseo (N.Y.) in the consolation match at 10:00 a.m.

Offensively, BW scored its goal at the 17:46 mark when junior forward Natalie Fox (Canfield) scored via an assist from sophomore midfielder Linsey Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/ South).  PSB tied the game at the 50:06 mark when Overall, Penn State Behrend outshot BW, 14-7.

In goal, BW sophomore goalkeeper Becky Miner (Berea) played all 110 minutes, faced 14 PSB shots, made nine saves and had an .929 save percentage and an 0.82 goals-against-average.

Following its game tomorrow, the Yellow Jackets then play on Wednesday, September 3 against Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan in the first game of a women’s and men’s doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. The BW and Adrian men then kick off at 7:00 p.m.  Next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6, BW travels to Newport News, Virginia to compete at the Christopher Newport Invitational Tournament.
