Baldwin-Wallace College Women’s Soccer Team Defeats Mt. Union, 3-1, to Open OAC Regular Season Play

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s soccer team defeated Mount Union College, 3-1, today (Saturday, September 29, 2007) in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season-opener for each team.

With its win, B-W is now 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. With its loss, Mt. Union is now 3-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets earned a 1-0 lead at the 13:38 mark of the first half when sophomore Stephanie Geiger (Berea) scored her second goal of the season with an assist from freshman Jess Poiner (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) off of a corner kick. B-W increased its lead to 2-0 before halftime when freshman Elizabeth Rice (Wooster/ Triway) scored an unassisted goal at the 41:22 mark.

In the second half, B-W scored its final goal and gained a 3-0 lead at the 61:07 mark when sophomore forward Courtney Brown (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) scored unassisted. Mt. Union added a goal aat the 86:02 mark for the final verdict.

In goal, Yellow Jacket senior three-time All-OAC player Michelle Neff (Strongsville) faced seven shots and allowed one goal and made four saves.

The B-W women continue OAC play on Wednesday, October 3 when they host Greater Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

After 11 games, junior All-OAC forward/ midfielder Allie Wojtkun (North Olmsted/ Magnificat), this week’s OAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, tops the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Freshman forward Linsey Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/ South) is second with 10 points on three goals and a team-leading four assists. Overall, B-W has outscored its opponents, 17-10, and outshot them, 143-95. In goal, Neff has allowed 10 goals in 987:14 for a 0.91 goal-against-average with 57 saves and four shutouts.
