WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s soccer team fell, 2-1, to Ohio Athletic Conference-rival and 23rd ranked Otterbein College on Tuesday (October 17, 2006) at Clements Field in Westerville, Ohio.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. With the win the Cardinals improve to 7-4-5 overall and 3-1-2 in the OAC.
Otterbein struck 57 seconds into the game with a five-yard goal off the crossbar by Lauren Capelle on an assist by Sara Vasbinder. Otterbein increased its lead to 2-0 when Chanelle Smith scored off a loose ball at the 10:28 mark.
The Jackets cut the lead in half in the 63rd minute on an Emily Lawrentz (Mansfield/Ashland Crestview) goal assisted by Jenny Miller (North Ridgeville). The goal was Lawrentz’s second of the season and the assist was Millers’s sixth of the season.
Otterbein outshot the Jackets, 22-9, and outcornered them, 13-1.
Junior 2005 OAC Goalkeeper of the Year Michelle Neff (Strongsville) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Yellow Jackets and notched four saves, while giving up two goals as she faced seven shots.
The Yellow Jacket women will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they travel to New Concord, Ohio to play the Muskingum College Fighting Muskies at 3:00 p.m.
