BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team scored in the 89th minute to defeat cross-town rival John Carroll University, 2-1. The victory today (Tuesday, Oct. 3) at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights was the first for the Yellow Jackets over the Blue Streaks since 1996.
After playing a scoreless first half, JCU got on the scorebard early in the second half when Natalie Bernot to a ball past the Yellow Jacket defense at the 46:35 mark.
Then at the 62:32 mark, B-W tied the score at 1-1 when senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Jenny Miller (North Ridgeville) scored on an assist from junior All-OAC forward Whitney Zunic (Canfield).
B-W then would score the game-winner at the 88:51 mark when senior All-OAC midfielder Emily Lawrentz (Mansfield/Ashland Crestview) scored off a corner kick by junior midfielder Brittan Davis (Poland Seminary).
In goal, junior All-OAC and 2005 OAC Goalie of the Year Michelle Neff (Strongsville) recorded seven saves as she faced 11 John Carroll shots. She gained her eighth win this season today.
With its win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. With its loss, John Carroll is now 7-5 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jacket women next will play on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Columbus at OAC rival Capital University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
