BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College football student-athlete Kevin Soflkiancs (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) and women’s soccer standout Allie Wojtkun (North Olmsted/ Magnificat) have been named the 2007-2008 Clyde Lamb Scholar-Athlete Award winners for their efforts on the field and in the classroom.
Soflkanics, who is currently working towards a Master’s of Business Administration degree, has been outstanding student and football player during his four years at the College.
As a punter on the football team, Soflkanics was a three-time Division III All-American (2004, 2006 and 2007) and is the only football player in the 105-year history of the Ohio Athletic Conference to earn first-team All-OAC honors four consecutive years. In addition, Soflkanics has received numerous other accolades for his performance on the football field, including being a four-time first-team All-North Region choice (three times by d3football.com and by The Football Gazette as a freshman), a seven-time OAC Special Teams Player of the Week, a four-time B-W Special Teams Player of the Year and the 2006 Division III Gilburg Award Winner, which is awarded to the top punter in Division III. He also led the OAC in punting for four years and all of Division III in punting in 2004 and 2006. Soflkanics ended his career with six school records, as he is the school-record holder for single-season punting yards (2,351), single-season yards per punt average (43.0), career punting yards (8,270), career yards per punt average (42.0), career punts inside the 20-yard line (51) and single-game yards per punt average (51.0).
Soflkanics was equally as stellar in the classroom as he graduated with a 3.72 grade point average in business administration and accounting. He is a Dean’s List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Alpha Lambda Honor Society. He is a three-time first-team Academic All-OAC and ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection and an ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-American in 2006 and 2007. Soflkanics was also the recipient of the President’s Award at the 2007-2008 Greater Cleveland Touchdown Club Banquet and a finalist for the 2007-2008 Woody Hayes Scholar Athlete Award.
Wojtkun, a business administration and human resource management major who has earned a 3.94 grade point average, was also honored. As a sophomore in 2006-2007, she started at midfielder, scored five goals and added one assist in 18 games. She earned honorable mention All-OAC accolades and was selected as B-W’s Offensive Player of the Year.
This season, Wojtkun scored seven goals and collected four assists for 18 points and earned second-team All-OAC honors. She was the OAC’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on September 24th for her three-goal, two-assist performance in wins versus Hiram College and against Westminster (Pa.) College. In addition, she was a first-team Academic All-OAC and a first-team ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV selection. Wojtkun is also a Dean’s List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society and also received the 2007-2008 Bonnie Raye Scholar Athlete Award.
