Baldwin-Wallace Junior 197-Pounder Devin Carman is the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College junior 197-pound wrestler Devin Carman (Ashtabuula/ Geneva High School) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. It is dejavu for Carman!

Carman won his second straight individual title at the Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology Tournament with a 4-0 record and earned OAC Wrestler of the Week honors for the second time in his career. A year ago, Carman was the RIT champ at 197 pounds, but with a 5-0 record, and was subsequently tabbed as the OAC Wrestler of the Week.

At RIT, Carman won the title at 4-0 and improved his seasonal mark to 10-1 overall (.909 winning percentage) and his career slate to 44-11 (an .800 winning percentage). In his first match, Carman defeated D.J. Bross from Thiel College of Pennsylvania, 12-4. He then won a 7-2 decision over John Francis of John Carroll University in his second match and beat Thomas Sanders of Case Western Reserve University, 4-0, in his third match. In the championship match, Carman beat third-seeded Brandon Kelly of Wilkes (Pa.) College, 5-2. The individual title at RIT was Carman's second straight. He also won a crown a year ago with a 5-0 record and lost in the championship match as a freshman and had a 4-1 record.

The Yellow Jacket grapplers are now idle until January 8 when they travel to Ithaca, New York to face Ithaca College and Montclair State (N.J.) in a tri-match. Then, in consecutive weeks, B-W will compete at the Division III National Dual Match Championships at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on January 15 and at the NCAA National Dual Match Championships at Cleveland State University on November 21-22.
