Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College sophomore 133-pound wrestler Jared Selover (Wapakoneta) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. It is the second time in two years that he has earned the honor. He is also the fifth different Yellow Jacket to earn the honor this season.
Selover earned the honor for compiling a 2-0 record last week in dual matches against Ohio Northern University and Case Western Reserve University. The two wins improved Selover's seasonal slate to 21-6, including a 9-2 mark and .818 winning percentage since moving from 125 pounds to 133 pounds five weeks ago.
Against ONU, Selover defeated Ohio Northern's Jason Scarborough by major decision,13-1. At CWRU last Saturday, he pinned the Spartans' Tom Chambers in 4:25.
Winning OAC Wrestler of the Week honors is good timing for Selover. This Saturday is the 2004 OAC Championship Tournament at John Carroll University. A year ago, Selover won the 125-pound OAC title and was named as the winner of the John Summa OAC Most Valuable Wrestler. He went on to place fourth at the NCAA Division III National Championships and earn All-American honors. He had a 35-8 record for the second most wins in a season at B-W. He enters this year's OAC tourney at 56-14 overall for an .800 winning percentage.
Wrestling at this Saturday's OAC Championship tourney at JCU will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center. The champion in each weight class then qualifies to compete at the 2004 NCAA Division III National Tournament on March 5-6 at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
