BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team finished fifth of 15 schools today (Jan. 31) at the Elmhurst College Al Hanke Invitational Tournament in Elmhurst, Illinois. It was the third tourney of the season for the Yellow Jackets.
Leading the way individually was 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson) who went 4-0 on the day and captured first place in his weight class. He won his championship match over Larry Armedio of Augustana College 5-0 to capture the title. Other individual placewinners included 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) with a second place finish and a 3-1 record , 174-pounder T. Terry (St. Peter Chanel) placed 4th with a 4-2 record, Sterling Sebek(Columbus, Ga., Brookstone) at 184 pounds placed 4th with a 4-2 record, and Jared Selover, (Wapakoneta) placed 6th at 133 pounds and won two of his five matches of the day. Kmetz won all of his matches until the finals when he lost 8-6 to Matt Schoenherr of Milwaukee School of Engineering in sudden victory overtime.
To date, the Yellow Jackets are 6-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Earlier this week, B-W defeated OAC rival Muskingum College, 23-19, in New Concord.
Individually, Kmetz tops the Yellow Jackets with a 20-3 overall record and a .870 winning percentage. Wuhr is second with an 18-5 record and a .783 winning percentage.
B-W will get back to the mat this Tuesday when it faces Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in Berea in the Rudolph Urspruing Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
In addition, B-W will host the 18th Annual John Summa Invitational Tournament next Saturday, Feb. 4. Individual weight class matches will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the finals scheduled to begin between 4-5:00 p.m.
