BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 25-24, tonight (Tuesday, January 12, 2010) in the Muskingum HPER Center in New Concord.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the OAC and next compete on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16, when they travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania to compete at the annual Budd Whitehall Duals. With the win, Muskingum improves to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior Tyler Erwin (Westerville/ Watkins Memorial) won by a 21-3 technical decision at 125 pounds. Junior Phil Payne (Orange Village/ Orange) picked up an 8-7 decision at 133 to move to 10-3 overall for the year and junior Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) earned a 17-3 major decision at 157. B-W also got forfeit wins from senior 141-pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin) and sophomore heavyweight Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake).
Following the Whitehall Duals at Lycoming College, B-W is back in action next Tuesday, Jan. 19 when it travels to Tiffin to face Heidelberg University in an OAC dual match at 7:30 p.m. The next home match is on Tuesday, Jan. 26 versus OAC arch-rival Mount Union College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 7:30 p.m.
Media and fans are reminded that the 24th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament will take place on Saturday, February 6 in the Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 10:00 a.m.
Also, don’t forget to catch Yellow Jacket men’s basketball action at home tomorrow night (Wednesday, Jan. 13) when B-W, 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the OAC, hosts OAC rival Ohio Northern University in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m.
