BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team had a 1-2 record today (Saturday, Jan. 29) at the Tomcat Quad Meet held on the campus of Thiel (Pa.) College. In the order of its matches, B-W lost to Mercyhurst (Pa.) North East College, 33-11, defeated Rochester Institute (N.Y.) of Technology, 23-17, and lost to Thiel (Pa.) College, 27-12.
With its 1-2 mark, B-W is now 6-15 overall.
Despite the loss to Mercyhurst (Pa.), freshman 165-pounder Jeremy Feador (North Olmsted) won by pinfall against James Amsley with a time of 1:43. Also winning for B-W was freshman 157-pounder Brian Haines (Amanda/ Teays Valley) defeated Dan Burns by technical fall (3:48), 22-7.
In the victory against R.I.T., freshman 125-pounder Brett Thomas (Gates Mills/ Mayfield) pinned Quiasar in a time of 1:41. Senior 149-pounder Scott Conrath (St. Clairsville), freshman Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) and senior 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva), ranked seventh in the latest Division III Adidas/Brute Division III Coaches Association poll all won their matches by decision. Seniors Sterling Sebek (Colubus, Ga./ Brookstone) and Joe Heiland (Shelby) both won by major decisions.
In the final match of the day, Carman got his fourth pin of the season by defeating Thiel's James Kara in a time of 3:26. Thomas and junior Chris Harrold (Willoughby/ South) rounded out the B-W winners with a pair of decisions.
B-W will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they host the annual John Summa Tournament at the B-W Rec Center in Berea. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
