B-W Hosts 18th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament This Saturday

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College will host the 18th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament this Saturday in the B-W Recreation Center and Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wrestlers from nine schools will compete for the title. Nationally-ranked Brockport State (N.Y.) is the six-time defending champion.

The Summa Tournament is named after the legendary B-W and Berea High School coach who was on the sidelines in Berea from 1958-80. In the 1960s up until 1980, Summa's teams won 200 dual matches and were among the best in small college wrestling.

To date, the Yellow Jackets have a 6-4 overall and 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference record following a dual match last night (Feb. 3) against John Carroll. (Click here for B-W vs. JCU results). Individually, sophomore 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) leads the team in victories with 20 and is 20-4 overall with a .833 winning percentage. Senior 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson), this week's OAC Wrestler of the Week, is second with 19 wins and is 19-5 overall. Sophomore 133-pounder Jared Selover, an All-American at 125 pounds a year ago, and senior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby), a national qualifier in 2003, are third with 16 wins each. Bob are 16-5 overall. Heiland will miss this week's Summa Tournament with an injury.

Following the Summa Tournament, B-W has two more OAC dual matches, at Heidelberg College on Tuesday, February 10, and at Ohio Northern University on Feb. 17, and a nonlegaue dual at Case Western Reserve University on Feb. 21 before this year's OAC Championship Tournament at John Carroll University on Saturday, Feb. 28.
