Jared Selover

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team continued its strong early-season showing by placing third today at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational Tournament in Rochester, New York.

The Yellow Jacket finished behind national powers Ithaca (N.Y.) College and Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University and ahead of a number of other perennial Division III powers.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was freshman 125-pounder Jared Selover (Wapakoneta High School) as he both stayed unbeaten and won an individual title. Selover, the number three seed in the tiurney, was 5-0 at RIT and is now 9-0 overall. He beat Jorge Ortega of SUNY-Oswego in his first match, 15-1; then pinned Ronnie Young of Johnson & Wales (Pa.) in 4:08; beat Waynesburg's J.R. Fidler in the quarterfinals, 5-4; beat Vinny Lauria of Johnson & Wales in the semifinals, 10-4; and beats John Carroll's Brett Purcell 1-0 in overtime in the championship match.

In addition, both sophomore 174-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Georgia/ Brookstone H.S.) and freshman 197-pounder Devon Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva H.S.), junior 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson H.S.) placed third, junior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby H.S.) and senior heavyweight Greg Hartlaub (Avon Lake) both placed fourth and senior 133-pounder Jeff Varney (Cahgrin Falls/ Kenston H.S.) placed fifth.

The B-W grapplers will be back in action this Saturday, December 14, when they travel to Ada, Ohio where they will participate in the Ohio Northern University Invitational Tournament.
