B-W Wrestlers Finish Fifth At Ohio Northern Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team continued its solid early-season showing as it finished fifth of 13 teams at the Ohio Northern Invitational in Ada on Saturday.

Leading the way individually was freshman 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva) who placed second; freshman 125-pounder Jared Selover (Wapakoneta) and senior 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson) both placed second; freshman 184-pounder T. Terry (Bedford/ Chanel) and senior 197-pounder Brian Tipka (New Philadelphia) both placed fourth; senior heavyweight Greg Hartlaub (Avon Lake) was fifth; sophomore Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Ga./ Brookstone) and sophomore James Payne (Perry) were both sixth; junior 165-pounde Joe Heiland (Shelby) was seventh and sophomore 149-pounder Scott Conrath (St. Clairsville) was eighth.

Jared Selover
After three weeks of competition, Jared Selover tops the team with 14 victories, a 14-1 record and a .933 winning percentage. Sayre Wuhr is second with 11 wins and an 11-3 overall record. His .786 winning percentage ranks third. The trio of Joe Heiland, Sterling Sebek and Greg Hartlaub are all tied for third with 10 victories. Devin Carman is sixth in terms of wins with nine and has the second-best winning percentage at .818. Other solid records include senior 133-pounder Jeff Varney (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) at 8-5 and Brian Tipka at 5-2.

Overall, Heiland has the most takedowns with 32 and is followed by Selover with 29 and Varney with 23. T. Terry has the most escapes with 18. The trio of Selover, freshman 149-pounder Phillip Peak (Collinsville, Okla./ Collinsville) and Carman are tied for the most reversals with five. Wuhr and Selover are tied for the most near falls with 13 and Tipka is third with 11.

Last week, the Yellow Jackets also received more good news as it is ranked 18th nationally in the latest adidas/ Brute national Division III Coaches poll.

The annual John Summa Memorial Tournament will be held in Berea on February 8. Action will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The 2003 OAC Championship Tournament will be at B-W on March 1. It is a part of the OAC Centennial Championships Festival.
