Wrestling Team Loses to Ohio Northern, 24-14

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team dropped a 24-14 Ohio Athletic Conference dual match decision tonight to visiting Ohio Northern University at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. With the loss, B-W falls to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.

Despite the loss, the Yellow Jacket had victories from junior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby), freshman 197/Hwt. Devin Carman (Ashtabula/Geneva), sophomore 157-pounder Seth Pirc (Perry) and sophomore184-pounder Jim Payne (Perry).

At 165, Heiland dominated Josh Cross (ONU) 27-11.  Carman, wrestling up to heavyweight from 197, defeated Nick Nigem (ONU), 4-2.  Pirc won a close match over John Manning (ONU), 3-1 in overtime to start the match.  Payne had a major decision over Blake Mattern (ONU), 12-4.  B-W led the match until junior 133-pounder Jeff Varney (Chagrin Falls) was pinned in the second period by Ty Clofta (ONU).

The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, February 8, B-W will host the annual John Summa Memorial Tournament in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. Action will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the finals are expected to begin at 3:30 p.m.
