BEREA, OHIO-- The Yellow Jacket wrestlers were defeated, 22-18 tonight (Feb. 17) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in Ada against the Ohio Northern Polar Bears.
With the loss, the Jackets' record falls to 3-3 in the OAC and 6-6 overall. With the win Ohio Northern improves their record to 5-1 in the OAC and 6-7 overall.
Though they were defeated, five B-W wrestlers put in a good performance. Sophomore Jared Selover(Wapakoneta) won his 133-pound match by a major decision of 13-1. Senior Sayre Wuhr (Hudson) won his 141-pound match with a decision of 6-1. Sophomore T. Terry (Bedford,St Peter Chanel) defeated his 174-pound opponent by a major decision of 13-3. Senior Tom DeLuca (Norwalk) defeated his 197-pound opponent in his first competitive match of the season, and Sophomore Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) won his heavyweight match with a major decision of 8-0.
With his win tonight Selover improves his individual record to 8-2; Wuhr is now 22-7 overall on the year and Terry improves his record to 7-15. In addition, DeLuca and Kmetz improve their records to 1-0 and 25-4 respectively.
The Yellow Jackets conclude their regular season Saturday, Feb. 21 at Case Western Reserve. The match will begin a 1 p.m. B-W will then compete at the OAC Conference Championships hosted by John Carroll next Saturday, Feb. 28 begining at 10 a.m.
