BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace wrestlers defeated Ohio Athletic Conference arch-rival Mount Union College, 26-15, tonight in a key OAC showdown.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. With the loss, Mount Union falls to 5-1, and 1-1 in the OAC.
Gaining victories for the Jackets were freshman 125-pounder Brett Thomas (Gates Mills/ Mayfield) who won by forfeit, senior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby), junior 174-pounder T.Terry (Bedford/ St. Peter Chanel), senior 184-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Ga./ Brookstone) all won by decision. In addition, sophomore 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva), ranked seventh in the in the latest Division III Adidas/Brute poll, won by tech fall against Mount's Adam Lange and senior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) recorded his fourth pin of the season.
Thomas gained a forfeit at 125 pounds for his first match of his collegiate career. Heiland and Sebek also won their first matches of the season. Terry improved to 8-7 on the season with a 3-2 decision against Mark Common. Carman improved to 11-1 and Kmetz improved to 13-3 for the season.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action this Friday, January 14th, at the Lycoming, (Pa.) Division III National Duels in Williamsport, (Pa.). Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.
