Baldwin-Wallace College Loses to Johnson & Wales (R.I.), 38-9, in the First

Round of the Division III National Duals at Lycoming

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team was defeated today (Friday, January 14, 2005) by Johnson & Wales (R.I.) College, 38-9, in its first match at the 20-team Budd Whitehall Division III National Dual Match Championships at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jackets will now face Cortland State (N.Y.) University in the second round at 2:00 p.m.

With its loss, B-W fell to 4-7 overall.

Despite the loss, sophomore 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva), ranked seventh in the in the latest Division III Adidas/Brute Division III Coaches Association poll, won by major decision against Greg Diamond, 14-0, and junior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) recorded his fifth fall of the season by defeating Jim-Bob Stanley, 16-0.

The second day of the Division III National Duals is tomorrow, Saturday, January 15, and begins at 9 a.m.

Next week, the Yellow Jackets travel to Cleveland State University and will be one of eight NCAA Division III school who will participate at the NCAA National Duals in the Cleveland State Convocation Center. Action begins at CSU at 9:00 a.m.
