National Wrestling Duals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost to Ithaca (N.Y.) College, 28-9, in its first match today (Jan. 9) at the Division III National Wrestling Duals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania ay Lycoming College. The Yellow Jackets will face Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.) in its second match at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. The winner of that match will face Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College at 5:30 p.m. The tournament concludes tomorrow.
With its loss, B-W, ranked 29th in Division III, falls to 3-1 overall. For the Yellow Jackets, senior 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson), freshman 149-pounder Thamir Rimbert (Cleveland/ Oberlin Senior) and sophomore heavyweight Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) won individually with decisions.
The biggest surprises for B-W was when sophomore 125-pound All-American Jared Selover (Wapakoneta) lost 4-3 to Ithaca's Kyle Kemmerer and senior 165-pound national qualifier Joe Heiland (Shelby) lost 8-4 to Ithaca's Marc Isreal. Earlier this week, Selover, now 9-3 overall, was moved to number one nationally at his weight class by the National Collegiate Wrestling Coaches Association. With his loss, Heiland fell to 12-4 overall.
Wuhr defeated Adam Johnson, 7-1, to improve to 9-5 overall. Rimbert beat Josh Herzig, 15-13, to improve to 4-6 overall. Kmetz beat Erik Wisecup, 5-0, to improve to 13-2 overall and is now tied for the team-lead in victories with Heiland. See all of the match results below.
