Match Ohio Athletic Conference Win Streak Tonight (Feb. 8) in Berea
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team had a three-match Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet winning streak snapped by Heidelberg, 25-13, tonight (Feb. 8) at the Ursprung Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 7-15 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. Heidelberg improves to 8-9 overall, 3-2 in the OAC.
Despite the loss, senior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby) defeated Heidelberg's Ian Rammel, 8-6. Other Yellow Jackets who recorded wins were sophomore 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva), who is currently ranked seventh in Division III in the latest Adidas-Brute National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, won by medical default and junior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) won by major decision against Robert Brubeck, 12-3.
Heiland improves to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in OAC action. Carman continues to lead the team in wins with 22 and is now 22-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference matches while Kmetz improves to 19-4, 3-1 OAC.
B-W returns to the mat next Thursday, Feb. 15 and will travel to University Heights for an OAC matchup with Cleveland cross-town rival and nationally-ranked John Carroll University.
The final home wrestling meet is Saturday, Feb. 17 against non-conference opponent Case Western Reserve. It will be Senior's Night as Sterling Sebek (Northfield Center/ Nordonia), Heiland and Scott Conrath (St. Clairsville) will be wresling in their final regular-season home meet at Ursprung Gymnasium.
