BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team finished fifth of 16 teams at the annual Elmhurst (Ill.) College Al Hanke Invitational Tournament.
Leading the way was freshman 125-pounder Jared Selover (Wapakoneta) who had a 3-1 record and placed second individually. In addition, junior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby) was 4-1 and placed third, senior 133-pounder Jeff Varney (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) was 3-2 and placed fourth and freshman 174-pounder Cory Wilson (Zanesville/ Maysville) was also 3-2 and placed fifth.
After eight weeks of competition, Jared Selover top and Joe Heiland are tied for the most victories with 24 each. Selover is 24-5 and has a team-leading .828 winning percentage. Heiland is 24-6 and is tied with senior heavyweight Greg Hartlaub (Avon Lake) with an .800 winning percentage. Jeff Varney is fourth in wins with 20 and is 20-9 overall. Freshman 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva) is fifth with 17 wins and is 17-5 overall with a .773 winning percentage. Junior 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson), who has been out with an injury, is sixth in wins with 14 and is at 14-4 overall.
Other solid records include sophomore 174-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Ga./ Brookstone) at 10-4, senior 174-pounder Dan DiSalvo (North Olmsted) at 9-6, sophomore 149/ 157-pounder Scott Conrath (St. Clairsville) at 11-11 and senior 197-pounder Brian Tipka (New Philadelphia) at 9-5 overall.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Tuesday, February 4, when they host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University in an OAC dual match in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. B-W enters that OAC dual match with a 7-4 overall and 2-2 OAC record.
In addition this week, on Saturday, February 8, B-W will host the annual John Summa Memorial Tournament in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. Action will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the finals are expected to begin at 3:30 p.m.
