Season Finale Tonight in Berea
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team defeated non-conference opponent and Cleveland rival Case Western Reserve University, 34-9, tonight (Thursday, Feb. 17) in the regular-season finale at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-16 overall. The Spartans now have a 0-3 dual meet record following tonight's loss.
Eight Yellow Jackets recorded victories led by junior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) who defeated Case's Dawud Wilson by technical fall, 18-2 (4:38). Senior 184-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Ga./ Brookstone) and sophomore Scott Conrath (St. Clairsville) both won by major decision. Senior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby) won by decision against Mike Sanchez 2-1 in double overtime. Freshman Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) and junior T. Terry (Bedford/ St. Peters Chanel) also won their individual matches by decision.
Kmetz won his 20th match of the season and is now 20-5 overall which is second best on the team. Heiland, one of two seniors wrestling in their final regular-season match, improved to 10-5 individually for the season. Conrath ends his final regular-season with a combined 9-16 record alternating between the 149 and 165-pound weight classes..
B-W concludes the regular-season and will now prepare for the 2004-2005 OAC Tournament which is next Saturday, Feb. 26 at Wilmington College in Wilmington. For more information about the OAC Tournament, please visit the Conference Web site at www.oac.org.
