BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost its first Ohio Athletic Conference match with 21-18 loss versus Muskingum College at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. With the upset, B-W is now 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.
Despite the loss, the Yellow Jackets had victories from seniors Dan DiSalvo (North Olmsted) and Greg Hartlaub (Avon Lake High School), juniors Jeff Varney (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston H.S.) and Joe Heiland (Shelby) and freshman Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva H.S.). DiSalvo pinned Matt Viers in 2:06. Heiland, the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week, defeated Matt Harris, 8-3.
The turning point in the match occured during the 125-pound weight class when Shane Hostetter caught Jared Selover (Wapakoneta) in a spladle, with 12 seconds left in the match.
The B-W grapplers will be back in action Tuesday, January 21st, when the face cross-town rival John Carroll University.
