B-W: B-W Defeats Heidelberg College, in OAC Opener and Improve to 4-0

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team opened its 2002-2003 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule tonight with a 31-7 victory against Heidelberg College at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. With the victory, B-W improved to 4-0 overall. This was Heidelberg's first dual match of the season.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was senior heavyweight Greg Hartlaub (Avon Lake High School), who improved to 4-0 when he pinned Matt Coniglio of Heidelberg at the 2:04 mark. Winning major decisions for B-W were senior 133-pounder Jeff Varney (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston H.S.) over Heidelberg's Kennen Hass, 13-4; senior 141-pounder Sayre Wuhr (Hudson) over Student Prince Drew Maglio, 17-2; and junior 165-pounder Joe Heiland (Shelby) over HC's Alex McElroy, 15-7.

Also winning decisions were freshman 125-pounder Jared Selover (Wapakoneta H.S.) ovwer Dustin McClintock, 3-0; freshman 149-pounder Phillip Peak (Collinsville, Oklahoma/ Collinsville H.S.) beat Aaron Broughman in overtime, 5-3; sophomore 174-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Georgia/ Brookstone H.S.) beat Tim Kelly, 5-4; and freshman 197-pounder Devon Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva H.S.) beat Kevin Root, 6-0. The most interesting match of the night was at the 184-pound weight class where Heidelberg's Joe Fraft beat B-W freshman T. Terry (Bedford/ Chanel H.S.) in double overtime, 2-1.

The B-W grapplers will be back in action this Saturday, December 7, when they travel to Rochester, New York where they will participate in the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational Tournament.
