B-W Wrestlers Win the Thiel (Pa.) Duals Title with a 4-0 Record

BEREA, OHIO -- Four Baldwin-Wallace College wrestlers each had perfect 4-0 records as the Yellow Jacket wrestling team compiled a 4-0 record today (Saturday, January 22, 2011) to capture the Thiel College Mel Berry Duals Championship in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

The Yellow Jackets, now 8-7 overall this season in dual matches, defeated Penn State DuBois (Pa.), 34-12, in the first round; beat Penn State New Kensington (Pa.), 54-6, in the second round; defeated Mercyhurst North East (Pa.), 31-17, in the third round; and beat host Thiel College, 27-21, in the final round.
Individually, senior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge), senior 197-pounder Trisan Stoll (Milan/ Edison), junior, 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley) and sophomore 184-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph) each had a 4-0 mark at Thiel.
Scavuzzo pinned three opponents and won by another match by forfeit as he improved to 25-2 this season. Stoll is now 17-4 overall following his undefeated day on the mat as he pinned three opponents and won once by forfeit. Dombrady won two matches by decisons of 3-0 and 9-5, respectively, and received two forfeits to improve to 17-11 overall. Georgian won three matches by decisions of 14-6, 7-4 and 10-5 and received one forfeit to improve to 11-6 overall.
In addition to Scavuzzo, Stoll, Dombrady and Georgian, senior 133-pounder Phil Payne (Woodmere/ Orange), senior 165-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) and junior 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake) all finished with 3-1 records. Payne’s day involved two wins by decison and forfiet to improve to 7-5 overall. Leonhard won two matches by forfeit and a third by major decision, 21-10 as he improved to 19-8 overall. Jones won each of his first three matches with two pins and a forfeit and is now 16-13 overall.
The B-W grapplers are back in action this Tuesday, January 25 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to face Ohio Atjletoc Conference rival Wilmington College in the Fred Raizk Arena at 7:30 p.m. The next home match is on Tuesday, February 1 when B-W hosts Muskingum University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m. That match will be taped and televised by SportsTime Ohio on Feb. 2 at 12:00 noon and again on Feb. 3 at both 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Fans also are reminded that the 25th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament is on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the Fieldhouse of the Lou Higgins Center.
