BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 25-22, tonight (Tuesday, January 5, 2010) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in its 2009-10 OAC dual match opener. The Quakers won with a decision in the final match of the night.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the OAC and next compete on Thursday, Jan. 7 versus perennial NCAA Division III power Central College of Iowa at 1:00 p.m.
Wilmington improves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the OAC and hosts Central tomorrow in Wilmington at 7:30 p.m.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior Phil Payne (Orange Village/ Orange) won by a 10-4 decision at 133 pounds and senior Eric Schubert (Oberlin) won by a 19-7 major decision at 141.
Junior Cody Quick (Mount Vernon) won by forfeit at 184 pounds as did sophomore Tristan Stoll (Milan/ Edison) at 197 pounds.
The Quakers got wins from Donny Herrington at 125, Richard Armand at 149, Thomas Bohrer at 165 and Brendan Leal at 174. Adam Salyers clinched the match with a 4-2 decision at 285.
Following its match versus Central Iowa, B-W is idle until Tuesday, Jan. 12 when it travels to New Concord, Ohio to face OAC rival Muskingum University in the Muskingum HPER Center at 7:30 p.m.
Media and fans are reminded that the 24th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament will take place on Saturday, February 6 in the Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 10:00 a.m.
Also, don’t forget to catch Yellow Jacket men’s basketball action at home tomorrow night (Wednesday, Jan. 6) when B-W, 7-5 overall, hosts OAC rival Mt. Union in Ursprung at 7:30 p.m.
