Baldwin-Wallace Falls to 14th-Ranked Ohio Northern, 25-18

BEREA, OHIO --
 The 14th-ranked Ohio Northern University wrestling team defeated host and Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin-Wallace College, 25-18, today (Saturday, February 12, 2011) in the first of two OAC matches in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center. The Yellow Jackets will host Muskingum University tonight at 6:00 p.m. in a rescheduled match from February 1.

With the loss, B-W, now 10-8 overall and 3-1 in the OAC, ended a seven-match winning streak. With its victory, the Polar Bears improve to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC and are now one-half match ahead of B-W in the OAC Standings.  

Despite the loss, B-W was led by a pair of pins from senior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll (Milan/ Edison) and 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake). Stoll, who has now won his last two OAC matches by pin, pinned Ohio Northern’s Matt Alexander at the1:03 mark and Jones pinned Justin Southwick in 1:23.

Also for the Jackets, senior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) defeated Luke Miller, the defending NCAA Division III National Champion at 157 pounds, by a decision of 5-1, and senior 133-pnder Phillip Payne (Woodmere/Orange) also won by decision, 7-3, over Jeremy Jones.

Following its match tonight versus Muskingum, the B-W grapplers are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to face eighth-ranked University of Mount Union in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 7:30 p.m.
